Job Description Analysis Storage Engineer
Location: Ashville, NC
Duration: 6 month contract

I. Full Description of Jobs and Activites as it pertains to daily work flow.
A. Primary technician in charge of all Open Systems storage requests, questions, problems, troubleshooting and related tasks.
a. Design and plan in detail new Open Systems servers that need storage space. Utilize the current EMC Symmetrix/DMX architecture in the most efficient ways for as a company and to the actual systems that require storage resources.
b. Design and plan in detail Open Systems storage growth as it relates to each server, within a week the request for growth storage is planned, documented, allocated, and granted to the system in need.
c. Currently monitor and support approximately 750 servers directly attached to the Customers SAN which equals 66.4 TB of production storage.
d. Currently provide and monitor a working lab environment for approximately 47 servers which equal 1 TB of testing storage.
e. Create and update documentation that is relevant and important to the day to day operations of Open Systems Storage, examples are renaming of servers, trend charting, growth and capacity charting.
f. Daily monitor and support the Customers Tier 1 Disaster Recovery solution for any Tier 1 Open Systems servers. This involves keeping track of multiple mirrored volumes on-site and at the remote facility. Much preparation, documentation and storage knowledge is needed and used daily to facilitate a working Disaster Recovery solution.
g. Successfully tested our Tier 1 storage environment on two separate occasions at the IBM Sterling Forest facility.
h. Continually monitor storage activity by reporting, documentation, and general knowledge of day to day activities.
i. Constantly aware of the changing storage, server, networking, and software technologies that I come into contact with or have to support on a daily basis.
j. Always available in need of any major or minor issues with a server outage or part failure on an EMC hardware platform. Knowledgeable of all requirements, steps and failover procedures in case of a major issue with any outage.
k. Daily utilize and support our software infrastructure that provides a gateway to managing all of our testing, production and Tier 1 storage. These products include EMC Control Center, Navisphere for CLARiiON, SYMCLI, and EMC Connectrix interface.
l. Provide documentation and information that is valuable for backup and recovery solutions with FDR/Upstream, and work closely with the Mainframe storage personnel to accomplish this redundancy for the business.
m. Train incoming personnel on procedures, environment and work flow processes.
B. Secondary roles
a. Secondary Open Systems Storage on-call personnel which supports 24x7 365 days a year production environment. Always readily available if needed.
b. Provide input on statistics, growth, technology and planning for any Open Systems Storage questions that management could possibly need.
c. Assist in major projects that have a direct impact on the business such as large vendor solutions, Disaster Recoverability, Data Center move, or new storage equipment/solutions that roll onto the Data Center floor.
d. Provide information or ideas that might be a value to a server engineer group or project.
e. Assist in software upgrades for our EMC interface that include EMC Control Center, Navisphere for Clariion, SYMCLI and EMC Connectrix interface.
f. Provide daily support for our Tivoli Storage Manager solution in Mooresville. Monitor backups and daily tape operations that are critical for redundancy in that location.
C. Training and education

a. EMC Storage Family Arrays
b. EMC Hardware functionality and components
c. EMC Control Center 4.x & 5.x
d. EMC Navisphere
e. EMC Connectrix Manager
f. Tivoli Storage Manager Implementation and Administration
g. Various storage architecture solutions, software, hardware, and other storage products.
h. Vendor relations in the Storage Network arena.
