Description
JOB PURPOSE:
A Storage Management Analyst III is a fully qualified individual contributor who applies an in-depth knowledge of large, heterogeneous, enterprise class storage technologies to recommend and implement solutions for data placement, backup, archive, recovery, and Business Continuity requirements. This senior level technician will have extensive knowledge of various industry leading vendor hardware and software architectures and deployment strategies.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and support mainframe/zOS disk and tape storage systems
- Maintain and support Open Systems storage arrays including SAN, NAS, DAS
- Perform capacity planning, utilization reporting, and performance tuning of storage systems
- Develop and maintain operational procedures related to data backup, archive, and recovery
- Prepare detailed documentation for procurement proposals
- Develop documentation, including flowcharts, specifications, and/or diagrams to define data storage processes and procedures
- Evaluate new hardware, firmware, and storage management software, make recommendations on emerging technologies as appropriate
- Expert level knowledge of networks, operating systems, SAN, NAS, and tape systems
- Analyzes storage equipment performance metrics and prepares executive level reporting
- Provide guidance and training to junior members of the team
- Performs other duties as assigned


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to multitask on high visibility projects under deadlines
- Hands-on knowledge of storage arrays, SAN technologies, enterprise class SAN switches
- Extensive knowledge of IBM?s mainframe environment including TSO, JCL, and SMS
- Hands-on experience with data storage device architectures by vendors IBM and StorageTek
- Advanced skills in WINDOWS and UNIX operating systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Project planning and project management in large scale computer environment
- Ability to train, delegate, and review the work of lower level employees
- Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments for a work group
- Ability to document and explain complex technical subjects

Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while following documented processes and
Procedures.
- Demonstrated technical expertise with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting SAN/NAS/DAS storage systems
- Experience with tape and disk drives and backup and restore technologies
- Hands-on SAN/NAS/DAS troubleshooting experience
- Project management experience
- Hands-on knowledge of IBM Shark storage arrays, EFCM, SANavigator, McData Spherion
- Knowledge of Microsoft, Solaris, HP-UX as it relates to mounting LUN?s, HBA configurations, and IBM?s SAN Volume Controller (SVC)

Education/Licenses/Certifications:
- Bachelor?s degree in Information Technology or technical institute degree.
- Minimum 7-8 years of progressively responsible related technical experience,
including at least three years SAN storage administration.
- Experience in large-scale computer systems environment.
- Proficiency using personal computer and associated applications including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint
- CCNP or CSMP certification preferred

RELATIONSHIPS (external/internal):
A Storage Management Analyst III will interact with management, other technicians in the Storage Management and Technical Services departments, programming staff, and Operations staff. At this level, this analyst will be expected to have frequent meetings with leading industry vendors and to make presentations to executive management supporting strategic technical recommendations.
