Description
PLANIT Technology Group is currently seeking a Systems Administrator for a contract to hire position with our client in Arlington, VA.

Description:
To ensure stable and secure operations of in-house computer and network systems, including managing all network hardware, systems, & software, resolving end-user hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and providing end user training where required.

Responsibilities:
* Deploy workstations, servers, printers, scanners, firewalls, network security systems, and all host security systems.
* Prioritize, document, and resolve incoming help requests from end users in a courteous manner utilizing your skills and diagnostic utilities as required.
* Track help desk requests, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made, and actions taken, through to final resolution. Escalate problems when necessary.
* Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems.
* Develop help sheets and FAQ lists for users
* Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.
* Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading hardware and software, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications.
* Maintain desktop image to include all supported licensed applications.
* Performing preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of workstations, printers, and peripherals.
* Manage and maintain servers, including e-mail, print and backup servers and associated operating systems and software. Escalate incidents when necessary.
* Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
* Manage all network hardware and equipment, including PCs, servers, printers, routers, switches, hubs, phone system, and UPSs.
* Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
* Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
* Manage user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
* Perform server and security audits and ensure security and integrity of systems is maintained.
* Perform and test system backups & recovery.
* Monitor and test network performance & provide network performance statistics and reports.
* Recommend, schedule, & perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
* Create required reports in response to business user needs.
* Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.

Requirements:
* College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 5 years relevant work experience.
* Current Microsoft certification preferred
* Extensive hands-on knowledge of basic computer hardware
* Working technical knowledge of PC and server operating systems, including Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003/2008.
* Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including Cisco routers and switches, IP Networking, DNS/DHCP, and IIS.
* Expertise in supporting Blackberry mobile devices end-to-end.
* Extensive application support experience with Microsoft Office Suite and mainstream productivity software applications.
* Working knowledge of current voice systems preferred
* Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
* Strong documentation skills.
* Keen attention to detail.
* Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
* Exceptional customer service orientation.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
