Description
Position: Systems Development Specialist (Distributed Applications Developer/Architect)
The candidate must have the ability to quickly comprehend existing system processes as well as business concepts - as they relate to benefits administration. He or she must be able to assist in the development of new processes and provide process improvement opportunities. The candidate is responsible for reviewing business and technical specification requirements while simultaneously providing process design recommendations and feedback to the analyst teams. He or she must then program software in SQL, UNIX and PowerBuilder, based on the technical requirements. The candidate needs to have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users. Some on-call support will be needed.

EXPERIENCE:
The candidate needs to have 2+ years of experience with SQL and PowerBuilder (or a similar 4GL programming language.) A strong knowledge of UNIX shell-scripting techniques is also required.

SKILLS:
The candidate needs to:
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Be able to quickly grasp business concepts and translate them into technical design.
  • Be able to work well in a team environment while simultaneously assuming ownership and personal accountability for assigned tasks and projects.
  • Provide support to business users and technical staff - both within the US as well as to our offshore teams.
  • Have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, corporate personnel and end users.
  • Have a strong ability to be organized, manage time and handle multiple tasks/projects and priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Have knowledge and practical experience in following proper software development life-cycle methodologies.


    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
    The candidate is required to work with their business and systems counterparts to design and program software products. Duties for this position include:
  • Analyze and design technical specifications. Develop software products using the technical specifications.
  • Develop and execute test plans.
  • Distribute code from one environment to another, utilizing software development life-cycle concepts and methods.
  • Manage production moves, including the coordination of post-production testing and verification.
  • Proactively initiating and following through on process improvement and system refinement initiatives.


    EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.) from a four-year college or university.
    OTHER DESIRABLE SKILLS: Experience in system architecture and design. Exposure to, or a working knowledge of creating and programming web-based applications.df-tc
