We currently have a challenging and exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer II to join our team in GTA's Financial Systems Section!

The Financial Systems Section of the Georgia Technology Authority is responsible for the operations and strategic direction of the PeopleSoft business applications used by the majority of state entities for financial and human resources management. The State of Georgia's PeopleSoft systems provide State entities with systems to support accounting, purchasing, labor distribution, asset management, personnel administration, and payroll business processes. The Human Resources systems serve 80+ state entities accounting for the personnel administration and payroll of 65,000 state employees. The Financial System Section provides State entities with business process support, help desk services, functional expertise, application development and production management services.

The Financial Systems Application Management group manages the PeopleSoft Financials and HRMS applications that are managed for state agencies by GTA. We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer that will augment our System Administration Team. The Systems Engineers form the Technical think tank for the Financial Systems section and serve in different roles based on the project.

In this role, we are looking for an individual that has a combination of strong technical and database administration skills.

Overview of Job:
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining several databases
  • Establishing policies and procedures pertaining to the management, security, maintenance, and use of the PeopleSoft application databases
  • Training employees in database management and use
Job Duties Include:
  • Systems Engineers perform software implementations and troubleshooting, database performance tuning, capacity planning, and database monitoring.
  • Provide technical support to development team members. They also handle the technical aspects of one or more databases including 24X7 availability/reliability and support multiple servers and databases.
  • They typically work on one or more projects of high complexity and act as the subject matter expert or technical leader for a project team.
  • When involved with a project team, they act in a consultative manner and typically do not provide administrative or management type support.
  • They are regarded as the highest-level experts within their areas of expertise.
Major responsibilities of this position include:
  • Monitoring relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; addresses a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
  • Maintaining development, test, and production RDBMS environments.
  • Monitoring and maintaining security in cooperation with data security administrators.
  • Providing advice to applications programmers in the effective use of database languages; advises on troubleshooting, exception processing needs, and other data management issues.
  • Working on complex tasks, projects, or support issues that involve a high level of risk, that impact performance of GTA FS applications, or make use of the individual's high level of knowledge within one or more areas of specialty.
  • Evaluating emerging technologies and new products or tools for the organization and/or agencies.
  • Assist in or review cost-benefit and risk analysis.
  • Designing innovative solutions using new technologies. Recommend short- term alternatives when appropriate.
  • May provide 24 hour on-call support.
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5 years IT experience which includes 4 years of Oracle DBA experience in a PeopleSoft ERP environment
  • 1 year must be supporting a PeopleSoft 7.x or 8.x environment
  • Completion of an Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1 year of experience using Citrix Metaframe
  • 1 year of experience using Control M Scheduling
