Systems Engineer II

Position Summary :

To implement, support and maintain the server infrastructure of our network performance and monitoring platform. This high level support is provided to maintain network Service Level Agreement (SLA) requirements for a Federal Government agency network.

Major Responsibilities :

• Maintain and enhance the integrity of server environment and its installed network performance and monitoring services and related databases.
• Maintain and update database of monitored customer CSU/DSU CPE circuits and PVCs.
• Research, analyze, evaluate and utilize systems tools for server maintenance, performance and backup procedures.
• Use system commands and protocols to maintain network systems and/or databases.
• Provide daily performance statistics of customer network.
• Compile network performance statistics for monthly status meeting with customer.
• Perform all Security updates for all Servers and monitor current reports of computer viruses to determine when to update virus protection systems.
• Work with vendors to procure annual hardware/software maintenance contracts.
• Participate in network security conference calls and program management review meetings.

Desired Skills :

• BS Degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of three years of relevant experience in a Windows 200X Server and UNIX environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience of programming MS BATCH and UNIX scripts.
• Minimum of two years of experience with at least one SNMP-based network. management program such as Solarwinds, Kentrox SPM, or WhatsUp Gold.
• Experience gathering details for discovered devices, including System MIB, ARP table interfaces.
• Solid experience with and detailed knowledge of TCP/IP and SNMP protocols and MIBs.
• Familiarity with routing, switching protocols as well as frame relay, ATM and IP networks preferred.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with software quality assurance preferred.
• Knowledge of MS SQL 2005, Oracle and PL SQL preferred.
• Command-line experience with one of more of the following: CISCO, Kentrox CSU/DSU.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
• Experience in NOC, data center and operations environments including infrastructure change management, monitoring and troubleshooting preferred.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and learn technical skills independently with minimal formal training.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• No Clearance required

• MCSE/CCNA/SECURITY PLUS certifications or demonstrated experience desired.
