JOB TITLE: Systems Engineer - West Technology - Application Management Services (4 positions - 2nd and 3rd shifts)

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

The candidate for this position will be primarily responsible for providing change and incident management services for the applications that the team supports. These services include coordinating and completing requested changes for those applications, responding to incidents that are reported either by automated alerting or customer report issues. In addition to these primary responsibilities the candidate for this position will also provide some services within the application management service focus which includes working on specific applications with other AMS engineers or development teams and also participating in specific projects as assigned.

This position includes hours outside the established work schedule as needed and requires being part of an on-call rotation. A general understanding of Thomson and West business processes, product lines, and internal and external customers is also preferred.

Application Management Services has team members on all shifts. This position will be a rotational position across all three shifts during the first three months of training with final placement to be determined after the completed training cycle.


MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

1.Perform application releases following established documentation and procedures. (40%)

2.Perform incident management activities to mitigate issues that affect the availability of supported applications. This includes being part of a rotating on-call pager rotation outside your normally scheduled hours. (40%)

3.Work with other AMS engineers to implement applications into a pre-production and production environments adhering to the AMS operational support model (10%)

4.Provide well-written documentation and serve as the technical contact on projects supported by group. (5%)

5.Represent team at various organizational meetings related to maintenance, ongoing departmental projects, and customer relationships as it pertains to Application Management Services functions (5%)

Experience/Skills
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Two-year technical college degree or equivalent work experience acceptable.


NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Work independently on complex tasks with some technical and management guidance.
- Excellent written and verbal communications.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new platforms and technologies with a keen interest in expanding and applying this knowledge as new ones emerge.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, challenging team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills required.
- Strong customer relationship management skills.
- ndependence to acquire and maintain technical skills for professional development.
- Organized and creative problem solving skills.
- Willingness and enthusiasm to support a variety of applications, crossing multiple platforms, including providing 24x7 pager coverage on a rotating basis.
- General knowledge of Thomson Legal & Regulatory products is preferred.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Working knowledge of Windows Server 2003.
Working experience of web technologies, browsers and terminology (i.e. HTML, Active Server Pages, CGI, XML, JSP, .net, etc.)
Working knowledge of Tomcat application server.
Understanding of network and database technologies a plus
Experience supporting online applications within a enterprise environment.
Former Help Desk or Customer Service Experience.
