Description
Responsibilities (Job Description)This position is in support of the Alaskan Weather Camera (WxCam) project. It requires an engineer with a broad technical and programmatic background in addition to specific technical writing skills and experience. The principle responsibilities of the position are to write system specifications, equipment descriptions, conceptual descriptions, maintenance manuals, troubleshooting manuals and operator's manuals generally in support of system maintenance. ?Operator? in this case refers to Flight Service Station Specialists, as well as Pilots who use the Internet to access camera images of airports and critical locations such as passes. The position requires a high degree of autonomy and initiative. A limited amount of travel is required to the Lower 48 and to remote Alaskan sites.

Outstanding technical writing experience with Systems Design and Requirements Documents is mandatory. Specific examples of documents to be developed include: System Description Manual IAW applicable FAA Standards; System Deployment/Implementation Plan IAW applicable FAA standards; System Interface Documents; Technical Interface (TI) manual (for maintenance); Concept of Operations documents; Internal Business Documents such as AOS Support Documents; Internal position papers; Budget Call and Budget Defense documentation; Public Interface documents such as PowerPoint presentations for various Aviation User Groups; and a WxCam Users Manual (for operations).

Required Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university. Will accept Engineering-In-Training Examination (EIT) or Professional Engineering (PE) certifications in lieu of the Bachelor's degree. In addition, a minimum of ten years experience in project management, coordination, and implementation, general engineering and management is required.

In place of the bachelor's degree, will accept a minimum of ten (10) years experience involving Air Traffic Control systems and National Air Space planning and project coordination.



Mandatory technical writing experience as applied to Systems Design and Requirements Documents.



Desired Qualifications

Modern Digital Networking experience to include providing phone support or troubleshooting on routers/servers and public speaking and presentation preparation in PowerPoint is desired. The successful candidate will have an outstanding ability to work constructively in a multi-disciplined team environment.

General Position Description
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Typical Minimum Education
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
