Description
For this contract position, our client needs a Technical Writer capable of writing, editing, indexing, and/or revising a wide variety of contractual, technical and web material such as RFP's, SOW's, Contract T&C's articles, reports, presentations, brochures, and/or manuals for a wide range of uses. In addition, this candidate will develop and write letters of intent, grant proposals, grant applications, MOU's, various user documentation, including User's Manuals and Guides, Online help files, Tutorial/Training Materials, Site Installation and Maintenance Guides, Quick Start Guides, Application Notes, Test Plans, Test Scripts, etc.

Primary Job Functions:
  • Create a uniform style and language for user documentation and internal documents
  • Collaborate with others to gain an understanding of the process or product to be documented
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of work efficiently and quickly
  • Create, edit, and maintain procedural documentation including but not limited to department policies and procedures (SOP's) and "how to" user guides and application guides
  • Observe production, developmental, and test activities to create detailed workflows and operating procedures
  • Write, edit, produce, and maintain on-line (internet/web-based) documentation
  • Provide presentations and training to department/team members
  • Develop relevant content/library to support proposal development: product boiler plates, content for charts / illustrations
  • Proof, edit, and review other proposal material, making recommendations for content and improvement

Experience/Skills
  • Minimum of 3-5 years working as a professional writer doing technical documentation and/or writing detailed RFP's, contracts, grants, etc.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Project and Visio
  • Proficiency using other Office Applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Web-based publication experience
  • Excellent communications skills, especially in writing original copy for statements of work and editing technical information
  • Ability to synthesize verbal and written sources of information and data into coherent documents
  • Ability to follow instructions and interpret source materials
  • Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines as well as work on a team
    Knowledge of computerized office operations and basic office software applications
  • Ability to support cross departmental teams
  • Highly organized and systematic work style, detail-oriented and conscientious
  • Ability to keep track of a number of simultaneous assignments and flexibly respond to the changing needs and shifting priorities of the department
    Education & Experience:Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. The following examples would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities:
    • Education or Experience equivalent to a BA/BS in Journalism, English, Technical Communications, Computer Science or a related field
    • Education or Experience that would have developed strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, team work, and time management skills
    • Experience that has demonstrated a proven successful track-record in supporting various types of writing assignments in a government agency
