Description
SkilGroup, Inc. is in immediate need of a Technical Writer. This consultant will generally work on medium-sized projects of varying scope and complexity, and is expected to understand technical concepts and apply standard practices and procedures. The Technical Writer is responsible for writing and editing technical documentation and is accountable for the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of all writing assignments. This person writes user manuals, SOPs, run books, and other technical documents as requested; edits technical documentation written by other team members, such as development design documents; adheres to documentation standards, templates, departmental policies and procedures, and the our client's Technical Documentation Style Guide; adheres to the Editorial Cycle and follows up on documentation reviews; uses the Chicago Manual of Style effectively and accurately; is responsible for the timely completion of all assignments and for escalating problems and reporting obstacles to the manager; creates graphics and diagrams as needed for documents; and responds to feedback from the manager about the documentation quality and consistently shows improvement in editorial skills and software skills. We are in need of a tech writer with really good technical depth. Client prefers technical depth over the software proficiency if needed. Candidates must have expert MS Word and FrameMaker skills; intermediate to advanced Photoshop, Acrobat, Visio, and MS Office skills; outstanding writing and editing skills; excellent verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to pay attention to details and follow standards; demonstrated aptitude for explaining technical concepts clearly, accurately, and concisely; ability to write HTML quickly and efficiently; Experience writing user manuals, SOPs, and run books; and experience using the Chicago Manual of Style. This is a 5+ month project, potentially contract-to-hire, in the northwest suburbs. LOCAL candidates only, please!
