We have an immediate need for a UI/User Experience Designer.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Intermediate level designer responsible for the visual and/or interaction design of web and software applications of moderate complexity and diverse scope. Utilizes knowledge and practical experience and exercises judgment in applying design and usability standards to work and completing assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner.

Works on projects requiring technical and creative decision making within own assignment. Receives general instructions on routine work and more detailed instructions on new assignments. Work reviewed by more senior User Experience Designer for ease of use and overall aesthetics.

Receives schedules and work assignments from manager or lead, who reviews adherence to and awareness of overall program performance, schedule and design standards. Records and reports project status and metrics.

??? Works with user experience researchers, product management and other stakeholders to understand user needs and stakeholder requirements and then designs and documents the interaction and/or visual design of the user experience for both web and software-based interfaces.

??? Performs design work requiring experience in the application of standard design guidelines and techniques. Expands experience and knowledge in areas of assignments and accomplishes tasks in a professional manner.

??? Conducts smaller projects independently. Performs specific portions of broader projects managed by supervisor. Solicits input and expertise from higher level designers and support from lower level designers as necessary to carry out assignments correctly.

??? Typically responsible for ownership of a small project or a significant portion of functionality on a product release.

??? Establishes and maintains thorough and accurate documentation of all work. Creates design deliverables such as wireframes, page flow diagrams, and visual design mockups. May also be responsible for creating UI specification documentation of a particular group of features within a product release.

??? Ensures that design work is consistent with documented design standards. Uses interaction and visual design pattern libraries to maintain consistency in interfaces across products.

??? Keeps abreast of usability and design best practices and developments. Incorporates trends and best practices within assignments as appropriate. Recommends improvements and changes.

??? Informally presents design concepts and deliverables to design team and project stakeholders; works with more senior designers to get approval to move projects forward and drive them to completion. Holds internal design reviews and may occasionally hold external design reviews or formally present design concepts and deliverables to project stakeholders.

??? Participates as an observer in user experience research activities such as usability testing, site visits, focus groups, interviews or other research activities, taking notes and/or contributing to user experience research findings. Contributes recommendations for solutions to identified usability issues.

??? Works to follow process and optimize process improvements in order to become a more efficient and effective contributor.

??? Prepares status, technical, and management reports as directed.

??? Provides estimates and creates schedules for small projects and occasionally projects of moderate scope for product teams and project managers.

??? Consults with programmers on technical matters and prototype designs.

??? Communicates with product management to understand product requirements, markets and users. Understands product management's use of competitive analysis, user research, and personas.

??? Champions user-centered design principles within the design group and the rest of Engineering.

??? Maintains continuous quality improvement in meeting internal and external customer requirements.

??? May serve in a part-time lead capacity to associate designers, providing immediate direction and guidance.

Qualifications and Requirements
??? BA/BS degree or equivalent in Graphic or Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of directly related work experience is typically required. One year of work experience is required for individuals holding an MA/MS degree in one of these fields. Equivalent experience may be substituted for formal education.

??? Must have experience defining information architecture, visual design and/or interaction design for software applications, web applications and/or a significant e-commerce website.

??? Knowledge of and experience designing user interfaces for Mac or Windows software is highly desired.

??? Proficiency with two or more of the following software tools for creating design deliverables is required: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fireworks, Microsoft Visio, Axure and Microsoft Office. Solid expertise with one or more of these tools is highly desired.

??? Understanding of UI design guidelines such as Microsoft???s Official Guidelines for User Interface Developers and Designers or the Apple Human Interface Guidelines is strongly desired. A basic understanding of usability best practices and principles is required.

??? A basic understanding of the respective and combined strengths and weaknesses of Internet, software and web development technologies such as HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, CSS, cookies, browser security settings, Windows platforms etc. in creation and delivery of the user experience is required.
