Piper Jaffray has an opportunity for a UNIX Admin that has the experience and knowledge to set up best practices. This individual will help manage the Server environment and work very closely with our vendors. Responsibilities include building, maintaining, and supporting both UNIX and Wintel servers and associated server-based applications.

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience with UNIX (Solaris/AIX) and adding users, backups.
  • Strong server security hardening and vulnerability patching skill set.
  • Troubleshoot UNIX issues quickly and perform timely resolution and permanent fixes.
  • Experience with Veritas Netbackup.
  • Understand how to configure and support DNS, NFS, TCP/IP, SAMBA.
  • Ability to install OS upgrades/patches and managed hardware upgrades and capacity.
  • Define UNIX capacity metrics and produce monthly capacity metrics for Mgmt review and discussion.
  • Provide documentation that will allow others to support an application running on UNIX.
    Conduct ongoing research specific to UNIX industry direction and determine appropriate direction and strategy for the PJC environment.
  • Communicate product and/or project strategy to team members, project team members, and key stakeholders.
  • Participate in 24/7 support rotation.
  • Should be able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    Essential Knowledge:
  • UNIX experience, SUN/AIX, Linux
  • Veritas Netbackup experience
  • Veritas Foundation Suite, Veritas Cluster
  • Server build experience
  • SAN experience, disk and tape EMC/HDS/STK
  • UNIX shell scripting

    Preferred Knowledge:
  • Dell server hardware
  • Windows 2000 / 2003, Active Directory, Exchange 2003
  • Experience in the support, maintenance, design and building of Wintel server environments including virtual technologies
  • SQL server 2000/2005df-tc
