UNIX SYSTEMS ENGINEER - BETHESDA, MD

We are seeking multiple Systems Engineers/Architects with various skill levels to support several key accounts. We are looking for individuals with System Administration and Systems Architecture experience in support of distributed large-scale UNIX (primarily SUN Solaris and Red Hat Linux) and Microsoft Windows systems environments. Selected individuals will be trained in the use of the HP/Opsware Server Automation System (SAS) and HP/Opsware Network Automation System (NAS).

These individuals will deploy and be responsible for managing the HP/Opsware software and then provide and implement succinct architectural recommendations to the customer regarding their server and application management efforts.

As a principal member of the engineering team, selected individuals will hold the primary responsibility of troubleshooting and correcting problems across many systems. Selected individuals will rely on their ability with systems, networks, and application flow to identify and resolve configuration issues and problems. Ultimately, the selected individuals will serve as an essential member of our customer solutions team, responsible for the successful deployment and customization of the HP/Opsware solutions.

Responsibilities

- Deploy the HP/Opsware System on client premises
- Customize and extend HP/Opsware solutions based on customer's business requirements
- Work with customer to deploy large scale, business critical applications using HP/Opsware
- Develop Python scripts, Shell scripts, VB scripts, and batch files for automation of system and application administration
- Develop custom applications using the Opsware APIs and industry standard programming languages such as Python, Perl, SH, or Java to meet client's business needs
- Define and communicate customer-driven product enhancements to the Engineering group
- Debugging of low level operating system, networking, and application problems.
- Increase capacity for customers to use, administer, and customize Opsware independently
- Package client's custom technology and applications for use with Opsware

Required Skills and Experience

Requirement: All candidates MUST have a TS/SCI level Security Clearance.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of and hands on experience in the following areas:

- System administration and debugging experience on at least two of the following platforms: Solaris, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, BSD, and Windows
- Network configuration and troubleshooting on large IP networks. DNS and DHCP administration experience a plus
- Automation of common tasks with Perl, Python, Shell scripts, VB script and batch files
- An understanding of how various server applications (Web Servers, databases, application servers) work together for an overall systems solution
- Experience with software packaging (eg RPM, MSI, etc.) and software distribution

In addition, candidate must possess the following skills:


- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Exceptional conceptual and analytical problem solving abilities
- Exceptional consulting and customer service skills.
- Self-motivated and able to define, plan, and implement long term tasks and goals
- Self-starter who takes initiative and works well in a team environment
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently when required

Experience in the Following Areas is a Plus

- Software development experience. Experience with Python or Java a plus
- Database experience a plus, especially Oracle. SQL is a plus
- Application technologies including IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, JBOSS, .NET framework, etc.
- Common Internet protocols including HTTP, SSL, and SOAP/XML-RPC/Web Services

Education

- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
- OR comparable experience supported by strong references who can validate past record of ability to produce results



US Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
