Description

We re in search of an experienced Unified Communications Engineer to join our client for a permanent opportunity. This person will performs as the chief technical resource for the unified communications environment, bringing together expertise in voice, video, email, instant messaging, conferencing and other technologies, while additionally mentoring other voice engineers and network engineers.



This organization is located in Evanston, IL.



Salary range will be primarily based upon experience, but can be within the $80K - $109K range.





Position Overview:


  • Performs as the chief technical resource for the unified communications environment, bringing together expertise in voice, video, email, instant messaging, conferencing and other technologies
  • Mentors other voice engineers and network engineers



  • Job Description:


  • Developing short and long-term strategies for unified communication systems including integration with external hosted solutions
  • Developing multi-year technology roadmaps and integration plans
  • Leading in the design, implementation, and maintenance of Unified Communications systems and services, including, but not limited to, Voice over IP Platforms, TDM, SIP services, automated call distribution, unified messaging, email, calendaring, conferencing, instant messaging, video, mobility and presence
  • Evaluating new and emerging technologies
  • Documenting functional and technical specifications
  • Composing Requests for Proposals and leading response evaluations
  • Recommending cost-effective solutions that meet the needs of the organization
  • Leading through technical oversight of specialized network components and service platforms for applications within unified communications
  • Participating in system configuration and updating
  • Analyzing system performance and resolves problems
  • Providing 2nd and 3rd tier support to the Service Operations unit through a periodic on-call rotation
  • Consulting with Service Operations and users, diagnosing and resolving problems in a timely fashion while stressing customer service
  • Becoming and remaining highly informed on industry best practices applicable to the responsibilities of this position, through professional publications, outside contacts, and ongoing professional development
  • Performing other duties as assigned or required



  • Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor s degree in engineering, computer science, telecommunications, or related field
  • Seven or more years of hands-on experience in a large, complex telecommunications and server administration environment
  • Ability to be collaborative
  • Deals effectively, not just with concrete tangible issues, but also with abstract conceptual matters
  • Communicates effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts
  • Regularly monitors customer satisfaction
  • Follows and teaches others to follow a process/method for problem solving
  • Effectively performs duties and responsibilities
  • Exhibits energy and desire to achieve
  • Formulates realistic plans and contingencies and establishes appropriate measurements of anticipated results
  • Sets clear, challenging objectives and regularly monitors progress





  • Preferred Qualifications:


  • Subject Matter Expertise in VoIP, traditional PBX platforms, SIP and H.323 signaling, unified messaging, video, instant messaging, conferencing, ACD, mobility, and presence
  • Large-scale experience with deploying and managing email, calendaring, and messaging platforms
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP protocol suite and Voice Signaling
  • Experience with switching and routing protocols including BGP, OSPF and MPLS
  • Prior experience in architecting and leading deployment of a large-scale unified communications platform
  • Manages financial assets responsibly
  • Works on initiatives that have the greatest strategic impact for the organization
