Our Client is a market maker and proprietary trader of exchange listed options, futures and equities in the US, Europe, and Korea. We also have a US proprietary trading arcade and provide direct market access to a limited group of sophisticated end users.
Technology is the core of our clients business. We have a Real Time distributed data base that allow for instantaneous and simultaneous pricing of all exchange listed derivatives and spreads.
Our technology is built on Sun and Intel hardware operating in a Unix/Linux environment. Virtually all of our software is internally developed for speed and efficiency using C, C++ and Perl.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
The primary focus of this position is the operational support of multiple, remote, proprietary trading environments. The second focus involves performance monitoring and analysis of the aforementioned environments and the development of improved monitoring methodologies, tools, and systems reporting processes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities of Position:
1. To provide first level technical support for trading staff
2. To communicate systems related issues to trading staff
3. To understand the architecture of the trading environment
4. To manage the startup of the trading environment
5. To monitor the trading environment and identify and report system failures and inefficiencies
6. To understand the purpose of the applications used by the trading staff
7. To understand how these applications are accessed by the trading staff
8. To understand the communications needs and expected behavior of these applications
9. To troubleshoot and resolve unexpected application or system behavior
10. To recommend improvements to facilitate better management and monitoring of the environment.

Requirements:
1. BS in Computer Science or 2 to 3 years work experience as a Unix systems administrator
2. Knowledge of the Unix operating system (Solaris and Linux preferred)
3. Good Perl and Shell programming skills
4. C and C++ knowledge is a plus
5. Strong interpersonal skills. ability to work well with users
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
7. Self-motivated with interest in learning new applications and systems.
8. Ability to handle multiple issues of varying priority effectively
9. Ability to work unsupervised

Often there are several phases of projects running concurrently. This requires identifying solutions to problems, specifying projects, recommending schedules and priorities for projects, and programming solutions to these problems. All these phases must be coordinated to achieve results that satisfy both users needs and desires as effectively as possible.

User support is a major facet of this position. The availability of the systems and applications are critical to the function of the business and the user community and therefore must be monitored on an on-going basis to ensure problem free use and smooth operation through training, guidance, and ongoing support when problems are encountered. Feedback from users is critical to enhancing system administration. This position must promote and use that feedback to improve the service provided.
