PEROT SYSTEMS CORPORATION is a worldwide provider of information technology services and business solutions to a broad range of clients. It is currently looking for a Unix Cache Administrator to join our team in Palo Alto, CA.

Job Responsibilities:
Works under the general direction of the Technical Project Manager
Accountable for the Operating system(s) and sub-system(s) utilized by our Epic applications that process on Unix systems
Assist with technical aspects of respective systems and processing
Endorses and uses approved Information Technology methodologies by our client
Design, install and maintain UNIX/AIX, including patches and new releases
Design, install and maintain Cache environment, including patches and new releases
Works with Security Engineer to ensure security design compliance of operating & data base system environment
System Administration of IBM P590 series in HACMP environment
System monitoring, Tuning and Trouble-shooting to ensure maximum performance & availability
Works with Performance Management Engineer to ensure appropriate performance indicators are being captured and monitored
Epic Application support - Configuration and maintenance of Systems including Servers, front-end processes & dictionaries.
Works with end user computing team on configuration and maintenance of Epic workstations, printers and other peripherals
Works with Operations Team on Control / Release management of Operating Systems, data bases and Epic software
Responsible for, and coordinates with Epic Environment Controller to install application release/ upgrades on Epic environments (Build, Test, Production, Train, etc.)
Change management for tracking and implementing changes to the environment
Identify and develop alerts for proactive monitoring and management

In addition to the above responsibilities, qualified applicants should also have the following skills:
  • Basic understanding of the underlying hardware and operating system

  • General understanding of Caché, including routines, globals, and namespaces

  • Understanding of what constitutes an Epic environment

  • Able to start and stop Caché using both Epic and Caché utilities

  • Understanding of Epic’s utilities and run levels

  • Use the Caché utilities to modify the Caché configuration file

  • Install and upgrade Caché on a server

  • Create programmer and administrative access to Epic environments

  • Create additional environments for testing and/or training as needed

  • Create logins for captive text and GUI user access

  • Modify menus to allow text access to multiple Epic environments and Caché instances

  • Configure Epic environments using Epic configuration utilities

  • Backup, restore, and refresh Epic environments

  • Understand journaling concepts

  • Set up, configure, and monitor shadow servers

  • Ability to perform server-side releases

  • Monitor and troubleshoot unusual system behavior

  • Establish a baseline for systems performance and monitor it regularly

  • Monitor Caché license usage



  • Required Skills:
  • Computer Programming Languages

  • Korn, Perl shell scripting

  • XML / HTML

  • Expert knowledge of internals of Computer Operating Systems (i.e. Unix/AIX certification requirement)

  • Experience supporting relational databases (i.e. SQL, Oracle, etc.) in a production environment

  • Data Communications protocols (i.e. TCP/IP)

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills with the ability to interact with all levels of personnel within our organization & vendor partners)

  • Analytical skills related to solving complex systems problems in time-critical


  • Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of data base systems, experience in Cache a plus


  • Minimum Educational Requirements:
  • A four year degree in a relevant technical discipline (masters preferred) and a minimum of seven years experience of increasing responsibility in operating systems, implementation and maintenance (in a Unix/AIX, high availability environment). These requirements may be met through formal course work or equivalent level of experience.
