Fortune 100 retail company seeking a candidate for a 3 month contract to hire position as a Unix Engineer.
Years of experience: Minimum 3 years of system administration in a Unix environment.
Required Skills: extensive, hand-on experience with Unix OS, tools, utilities and application. Must be able to read/write scripts (Shell, Perl, Python) to automate tasks. Must be proficient with basic networking including configuration, troubleshooting. Experience with HP hardware: X86 Servers, MSA storage, ILO. Must be available on-call 24/7.
Preferred Skills: Linux ES 4, HP UX, AIX, VMware, ESX

Detailed Description of Daily Assignment: The candidate will be a member of MTSE team to support all stores day-to-day operation plus other team projects
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES- Perform installation, maintenance and support of system software and user support on small to mid-sized projects.- Perform configuration, debugging, troubleshooting and support for multiple infrastructure platforms on small to mid-sized projects. - Monitoring and tuning platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved.- Perform installation, maintenance and support of hardware and infrastructure on small to mid-sized projects.- Perform root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management.- Responsibilities including day-to-day administering of Linux (RH ES), Vmware ESX and Window Servers.- Monitoring performance and health of the production environment and provide recommendation for improvement to address any technical issues.- Follow defined configuration and administration procedures to maintain a high level of service and ensure optimal availability in the production environment.- Ensure stability, viability and maintenance of the 24/7 mission-critical production environment.- Plan, document and execute technical changes as needed according to approved business requirements and Change Management process.- Assist in store & Store Support Center engineering and roll-out implementation.- Excellent communication, organization, time management and multi-tasking skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum of 3 years of system administration/engineering experience in a Unix business enterprise production environment.- Experience with Vmware ESX server, HA administration functions to support 24/7/365 mission-critical business applications.- Experience with server virtualization, load-balancing, high availability, clustering technology. - Extensive hand-on experience with Unix operating systems, utilities, tools and applications; Ability to review or write Shell Scripts and understand general Shell Scripting practices. Must have knowledge of programming or writing Shell Scripts in languages such as Korn Shell, Bourne Shell, Bash, and Perl, Python preferred. - Set up network interfaces on Servers, trouble shoot, and resolve network issues related to the Servers. Must understand basic networking items such as Ethernet, ARP, and TCP/IP.
