Job Title:
Unix Engineer Production Support

Work Hours:
Monday Friday: Between 7AM-10PM, some after hours and weekend work will be required

Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, configure and maintain Sun Microsystems hardware in the production environment according to approved business requirements and change management processes during prescribed maintenance periods.
  • Deploy, configure and troubleshoot Server Side applications in the production environment on Solaris Servers according to approved business requirements and change management processes during prescribed maintenance periods.
  • Assist in administering Windows and Linux Servers.
  • Ensure stability, viability and maintenance of the production environment.
  • Work with the Directors and Teams of other departments to provide support of Server Side applications in the production environment and to ensure proper preparation and coordination of changes.
  • Plan, document and execute technical changes as needed in the production environment according to approved business requirements and change management processes, publishing these plans and the results of the changes to Department Directors, Team Leads and Project Managers.
  • Monitor performance and health of the production environment and provide recommendations for improvements to address any technical issues.
  • Document all changes made in the production environment.
  • Follow defined configuration and administration procedures to maintain a high level of service and availability in the production environment.
  • Others duties as needed.

Experience & Skills:
Required:

  • 5+ years experience administering applications and services on Solaris
  • 3+ years experience administering applications and services on Linux and Windows platforms
  • Strong technical training related to system and application configuration and administration duties in an enterprise class data center environment
  • Very strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a team that is not physically collocated
  • Deployment of various types of applications onto Sparc and Intel hardware and Sun Solaris, Windows Server and Red Hat Linux operating systems
  • Competency with operating at the Linux/Unix command line
  • Ability to edit configuration files (XML, etc.)
  • Administration of MS Windows Servers to include stopping, starting and configuration of services and troubleshooting issues with services.
  • Linux/Unix Shell Scripting (bash, csh, ksh)
  • Perl & PHP Scripting
  • Ability to interface with various databases (Sybase, Oracle, MS SQL Server)
  • Administration of WebLogic, JBoss, C++ & .NET applications
  • Administration of performance monitoring tools

Preferred:

  • Troubleshooting media transcoding issues
  • Troubleshooting ASP .NET applications
  • Windows Server, Sun Solaris & Red Hat Linux performance tuning

Education & Certifications:
Required:

  • High School diploma
  • Sun certification
  • Preferred
  • RedHat, LPI, SAIR or similar certification
  • Some IT related secondary education or equivalent experience
