Web Developer

InvestmentNews.com, which provides news, insight and data to the financial advisory community, is seeking candidates for the position of Web Developer.  InvestmentNews.com is the online brand extension of InvestmentNews, the leading newspaper for financial advisers, and consists of a vast array of online products including an industry daily news e-mail; multiple topical e-newsletters; webcasts; podcasts; blogs; streaming video; an active user community; market data and more.

The Web Developer is responsible for designing, developing and implementing the online initiatives for InvestmentNews.com as defined by the business and editorial teams.  The Web Developer, as part of the online group, is a cross-functional role which requires the ideal candidate to be highly adept at multi-tasking, re-prioritizing projects and successfully interfacing with non-technical team members from other departments (editorial, sales, marketing, circulation, etc.).

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and enhance all aspects of InvestmentNews.com including its content management system, social networking platform, e-mail distribution provider, ad server, video hosting provider, web analytics package, market data supplier, etc.
• Consult with internal business units to define technical requirements and capabilities, establish user workflows and provide project schedules to ensure successful and timely delivery of new online products.
• Implement online initiatives by employing all phases of the software development lifecycle (design, build, test and maintain).
• Integrate, manage and support relationships with 3^rd party application providers (Brightcove, Pluck, etc.).
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies, relevant APIs, industry best practices and Web usability standards.

• Expert in HTML/CSS.  Capable of quickly creating lightweight (table-less), intuitive, search engine optimized HTML and CSS templates.
• Proficient in Javascript including AJAX, JSON, JQuery, YUI and other Javascript frameworks.
• Knowledge of a server side scripting language (PHP, ASP, JSP, etc.)
• Previous experience with template-based content management systems preferred.
• Proficient in SQL and database fundamentals (normalization, joins, schemas, etc.).
• Proficient with Photoshop.  Capable of slicing up a Photoshop image and creating web compatible images.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Access).
• Knowledge of mobile technologies (WAP, Blackberry Apps, iPhone Apps) a plus.
• Knowledge of audio and video encoding/editing a plus.
• Capable of learning quickly and possesses strong desire to keep up with the latest web technologies.
• Highly detail oriented.
