Purpose and function of job:

This position reports to the Site Design and User Experience director.This individual will provide direction and support for all information architecture, interaction design and usability engineering efforts, both internal and external.Responsibilities include directing user modeling, storyboarding, scenario development, high-level use case definition, task analysis, and other activities to capture and develop user requirements and integrate these into web deliverables.This individual will work closely with suppliers, technology, marketing and LOB leaders to create a unified, customer driven design direction for all of GMAC’s web properties.This individual should have a bold vision for excellence in the field of information architecture, interaction design and usability engineering.This individual should be highly innovative and inspire commitment to a higher standard.This individual should be usability professional with a minimum of 7 years experience in IA/ID/Usability.Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Principle Accountabilities:

1.Plan, coordinate, and direct the operational activities of the Web Usability
team.

2.Manage relationships with agencies and other external partners/vendors related to IA/ID/Usability standards.

3.Accountable for ongoing IA/ID/Usability design strategy and supporting efforts.

4.Manage usability lab and related resources.

5.Various other duties as assigned.

Experience/Skills
Experience and Skills requirements:

Director or lead IA/ID/Usability Engineer at major agency, retail or financial services institution or large ecommerce site.

Special skills/abilities/competencies required:

7+ years experience in IA/ID, usability, or related field. 5+ years in web usability leading design efforts. Intimate knowledge of ecommerce and internet information architecture, design, and usability testing. An intimate knowledge of UI and interactive visual design.

Scope/Dimensions:

Scope of accountability for design includes all consumer, dealer, business and commercial sites.

Education level:

Required: Bachelor Degree, Masters desired. Minimum: 7 years experience in IA/ID, usability or related field.

Major field of study:

Computer Science, Human Factors, Human-computer interaction, Anthropology, Cognitive Psychology, Web Design, Information Science or Visual Arts.



Percentage of time spent on each of the principal Accountabilities in Level Scope:
1. Web Usability strategy and standards 30%
2. Research and testing strategy and standards 25%
3. Vendor Management 20%
4. Client Management 10%
5. Administrative-15%

Technical Capabilities & Department Specific Accountabilities:

Identify, recommend, implement, and support innovative, accessible, cost-effective solutions for all GMAC web properties. Partner across related disciplines
including web design, content management, marketing, channel services and vendor managed solutions. Familiarity with web analytics tools such as Hitbox, Ominiture, Site Catalyst and Web Trends, and the ability to relate the data from those tools to marketing, merchandising, and customer usage behaviors.
